Where it comes from
The Maheshwari weave traces to the 18th century, when Rani Ahilyabai Holkar of the Holkar dynasty is credited with commissioning the design of a distinct saree for the region. Today Maheshwari sarees carry a Geographical Indication (GI) tag and are woven by artisan clusters along the Narmada river.
